Softshell Blue Crab

Softshell crabs are a term for crabs that have recently molted their old exoskeleton and are still soft. Unlike other crabs and shellfish, they are unique in that they can be eaten whole with shell and all. Our jumbo crabs are are carefully monitored and harvested immediately after molting before being cleaned and flash-frozen to yield tender crabs that are meaty and full of flavor. These crabs are fully cleaned (gills and abdomen removed) and ready-to-cook.

 

Uses: Soft-shell crabs are most popularly deep-fried with tempura batter and served with lemon, mayo, and a generous sprinkle of spices. It makes for an exceptionally delicious sandwich or finger food.

 

Size refers to the number of crabs per kilogram or box. A lower number indicates a larger crab.
